I live in a one bedroom apt. and the text/call feature will work if the phone is in another room. However, if I leave the phone at home while I'm out, those features won't respond. I believe that as long as the phone is connected to the same blutooth/wifi connection, you will be able to use both features.

Please try again later.The GPS version will track workouts without the presence of your iPhone, but texting and other functions requiring an internet/cellular connection will not work. Think of it like putting your phone on “Airplane Mode.” The same kinds of stuff that will work on your phone without a connection will work on your watch when it’s away from your phone. In other words, not much. That being said, if you are away from your phone but still in range of a known WiFi hotspot (one that your phone has been connected to since you paired your watch) that connection will keep your phone connected, for a time. There isn’t much control over connecting to WiFi from your watch, so don’t expect to be able to reconnect if you lose signal, or to be able to connect to a new hotspot, but it will hold you over until you get back to your phone.
