The purpose of the watch's phone number is so that the phone company can distinguish between devices. They link your cell phone's number with your watch's number in order for them to forward calls to your watch. If it did not have it's own number there would be no way for the phone company to forward the call to your watch. The would end up forwarding it straight back to your cell phone.
