Everything seems to work as normal for me with the cellular version. I'm not sure about the gps model.

You can make and receive calls but you will not be able to text Android phones unless your cell is powered on. That’s just one of the issues I came across when talking to a lead tech at apple.

Note: the following response is written assuming you get the non-cellular version. When your phone dies, you will most likely not be able to make/receive phone calls or texts, and some WiFi-dependent apps (like Weather) will not work. However, if you are in range of a WiFi network your iPhone has connected to previously, you will be able to do everything but make/receive phone calls. Hope this helps! :)
