The ECG feature is now available on the Series 4 Apple Watch.

Hi, good question. Every series 4 Apple Watch will have ECG ability once the software is finalized by Apple. In other words if you were to buy this watch today and Apple realeased ECG ability in a month, you’d be all good. Apple isn’t changing any sort of hardware for ECG compatibility. ECG uses hardware already on every single series 4 Apple Watch. Now it’s just a matter of time before the software is released.

ECG feature will be turned on with a update. As long as you have a Apple Watch Series 4 your good.

It will be an update on the watch.. all the hardware is built in already, just waiting on programming! :)
