Do I need to be near my iPhone to text or talk? null

I think it's within 40 feet without the cell option in your watch. I answered my "phone" by talking into my watch this morning... and I was on a different floor in the house than my phone. So, I think it works well in that respect.

You have to be in the Bluetooth range unless you have the cellular version.
