“Not sure if changes with the iwatch 6? Iwatch 5 if watch glass cracks it can't be repaired. Apple quoted around $300 to repair, independent repair shops cant. Might as well buy a new watch. Get the apple care warranty, it will crack sooner or later.”

I disagree. I had the same watch for 6 years now, all I place was a glass cover. I never had any issues with my watch or cracks on the glass. I always get an apple care just in case. I think is how you use your watch and how careful you are in caring for your watch that makes the difference.
