No. It does require direct sunlight, but keeps a charge and charges fast when the sun is out.

You can take it down and charge it in the house for a few house if you are without sunlight for a long period anf the battery life is good for a week as I have proven it to work but you don't want to use it without the solar for too long as this make weaken the battery. I give it 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ it also has a siren, and spot light that works excellent. I am a valued member of Baet Buy products and I con content that this is a great buy. Cbglorified
