A:AnswerYes and no.
I live in New England and have used Arlo wireless cameras since 2015. First, no battery powered camera works great during really cold weather. In my experience Arlo cameras stop working around zero, (single digits) depending on the model. If you use a solar panel to keep the battery charged, it will not charge below 32°F. This is a limitation of lithium ion batteries and is not unique to Arlo. I have found that with a black silicone skin on the older Pro and Pro 2 models, I can get a camera located in full sun to charge down to as low as 19° because the camera body is actually above 32° in the sun.
If you want a security camera that works in really cold weather, it needs to be powered by a wire from a continuous power source. Some of those are only rated for -14°F, but I have also seen some that offer camera heater options. I use about 40 Arlo cameras personally, but I also use Axis cameras for different features and purposes. Cold weather tolerance is one of the features. When my Arlo cameras shiver and turn off to protect themselves, the Axis cameras keep on rolling.
A:AnswerThe individual cameras do not have an option for this. Possibly for an optional home base/hub. Arlo paid service is worth it. Especially if you find their frequent deals on the app.
A:AnswerI have never tested the high temperature limit. Thankfully, it never gets that hot in New England…at least not yet. In my experience Arlo battery powered cameras do stop working around 0° F and will start working again when the temperature rises. Different models offer different results. But in general, battery powered devices don’t like extreme hot or cold environments.
A:AnswerYou can have as many as you’d like with a little creativity but it depends on the model. I have 8 on an older model and it works great. No issues at all
A:AnswerThe Essential cameras have a fixed battery, so you can’t swap or replace them.
This is a cost reduction design choice and though logical, it is the reason I will not buy another “Essential” model camera. I purchased two when I saw they can work on wifi without a base station, but at the time, I didn’t see that they are incompatible with the Pro 3 and Pro 4 accessories and do not have removable batteries.
Without removable batteries, you must take the camera down and plug it in in order to recharge it (assuming you don’t power it via a cable). This can be a royal pain depending on where you mount your camera. Also, your camera is most likely out of service while you recharge it. So consider where you want to place your camera before choosing the model. For me, the Pro 4 is a sweet spot, it shares the accessories with Pro 3 and Ultra cameras, but has the flexibility to connect to my own WiFi when my location demands it…and removable batteries which allow for a very quick battery swap with the camera fixed in place.
A:AnswerNo, it does not have micro SD card slot. However, when it is connected to an Arlo SmartHub that has local storage feature, you may enable it so the camera can record locally. Also, if internet goes down, as long as the SmartHub and the cameras have power, the camera will record locally but will not save it in cloud or notify you about the event. ^RM
