• Battery life. The Essential is listed at 6 months for typical use before needing a recharge, while the XL is rated at 12 months. Therefore, the XL is larger too considering the larger battery.

• They only difference between size and weight is the battery is bigger. Holds a charge longer beacuse it has more MaHs (rating based on how many hours on average the battery will stay charged). Arlo Essential XL Spotlight: The XL is bigger all around and an inch longer to fit in that bigger battery - which also isn't removable, so you need to take the whole camera down to charge it - although this is easy to do (assuming you didn't put it up with a ladder). Just a fyi.
