• You can monitor from anywhere in the world; the hub connects via ethernet to your home internet, and sends the video feeds over the internet to wherever you're viewing.

• You need WiFi for cameras to connect to base station

• The system must have a data connection for you to use data on the phone to connect to it. So, you need wifi.

• My home internet service is through my cable which offers Wi_fi, and my cell will pickup the cameras as long as I have a Wi-Fi connection while I'm away. So, is it "necessary"? Well, it seems to be the way it works, maybe I'm wrong considering my service already has Wi-Fi?
