Hi Geoff, In The SURFboard mAX router there isn't a provision to manually select the band that you want to connect to because it utilizes smart band steering algorithms that would let your client device connect to the best possible band.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Since the mesh system wont let you specify what band you want to add a device on, such as adding a 2.4 GHz weather station to your network from your phone that also has to be on a 2.4 GHz network.....BUT the router automatically puts the phone on the 5 GHz band. I did some experimentation and found out that on this mesh router, at least this specific one, puts out 2.4 GHz on the guest access band. So for my purposes I named my Guest access Weather Band Access and confirmed it was a 2.4 GHz band based on the internet speeds I could get vs my other PC on a 5 GHz band. I put my phone on the Guest access 2.4 GHz band and just as it should, after placing the weather station in provisioning mode, it hooked right up on the band I created. The only drawback if you consider it one is you have to leave the guest access open all the time, but I have no problem doing that, after all it also is password protected and will be seldom used by a guest.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You don’t have specifically assign 2.4ghz channel for your device since Arris Surfboard Max will automatically determine the frequency and Wi-Fi protocol for your old device. Secondly, if your network consists from old devices, like your weather device, there is no need to buy an expensive router, like Arris Surfboard Max router, you can spend much less money to configure your network I hope this info would help you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yep, definitely! Even if it is outside your home!
