“Does the SB6183 use the problem prone Intel Puma 6 chipset? Google says both yes and no. So I'm guessing there was a manufacturing date that they switched from the Puma 6 chipset”

As far as I know this one doesn’t have that issue, the sb6190 is the one with that chipset. Thats why I bought this one instead. Did research on it before buying also.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not sure which chipset is in the ARRIS - SURFboard 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - White. When I replaced my older modem, I did skip a couple models because reviews said they had problem chipsets. Few had problems with the ARRIS - SURFboard 16 x 4 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem - White. Mine has been running fine for a couple months with no problems. I have reset it a couple times when service got poor, but that's usually a problem with the cable service and after restarting the modem finds new, cleaner channels to use.
