“would this computer be good for someone going to college”

• Short answer no. I imagine a college student will be writing research papers and this couldn't handle having multiple windows open. Productivity would be greatly diminished. It would technically work, but the added stress and frustration from the lag would negatively impact the student's wellbeing.
