“I just bought 4 for a home office set-up. I also need MS 365 for the 4 machines/single user and need outlook, word and excel. Does 1 license work for all the machines? It seems confusing and while at the BB store I felt like I was getting up-sold.”

It would depend on the software, some comes with numerous licenses and some only for one computer. BestBuy personal do not work on commission, so most likely, they are not trying to upsell.
