“I'm looking for a new computer and I really want the Surface for its features but this seems like a great alternative. One concern is the touchscreen. Will any pen work? Will one work better than the others? Touchscreen performance is a must for me.”

Yes, this device does support pen touch. You would need a capacitive stylus to be able to touch the screen with a pen/stylus.
