My experience using the Asus RT AC5300 with a USB drive was less than expected. It completely failed as a (wireless) Time Machine back-up device. Others (including me) have experienced problems such as the RT AC5300 causing the attached drive to constantly spin. Not good. Read my review titled " A great router with a few short comings". However using a NAS device in Link Aggregation mode with the Asus RT AC5300 is fantastic. Transfer speeds over a wired connection to a NAS approach 2 Gbps!

Others like me have experienced less than stellar performance when connecting a USB drive such a constant spinning. Read my review here entitled " A great router with a few short comings". On the other-hand using the Asus RT AC5300 with a NAS device that is cable of Link Aggregation (wired connection) is fantastic. You can get speeds up to 2 Gbps.
