Oh yes, this router is awesome! This is especially great if you have an ONT (Optical Network Terminal). I hate having a modem because its just extra gear in a small space. Im sure this router works great with a standard modem, but its for sure a game changer with an ONT. Super fast speeds (see my pics) and we only pay for 250mb internet. The VPN setting is great; now I can finally watch hockey in Dallas using my nhl app. Setup can be simple if you are not tech savy, but it also allows for plenty of advanced user changes. Word of advice, if you are using an ONT be sure to power cycle both the router and ONT after setup to get your internet connection back up.

The hard-wired connection is amazing. I am paying for 500MB download speeds and I was concerned that with my previous Internet Service Provider who I was paying for 100 but only getting up to 59 or even 60, was I going to get the same? My wife is excited with the wireless connection connecting from the 2nd floor of our home or all the way out in our backyard, up to 50 yards away from the house. Great purchase.

I purchased this item and had to return the first one due to connection issues. Best Buy was awesome about sending me out a replacement right away without having to return previous router so I was not without wifi at home for the weekend. So far I have not been able to see any difference with this model versus the previous model I had when it comes to wifi range. Nice looking OK performance.

Better products out thereI have the D link ultra AC 3200. It is handled several boys gaming at the same time my daughter and I streaming all on 200 MB download from spectrum, because I don’t want to pay them more than that. My son asked when he moved out to take my D-Link so I replaced it with this ASUS. It handled my daughter and I and streaming but when the boys came over that weekend and there were only four of them instead of the nine they were upset because it kept lagging which I guess is very bad when you’re a gamer. So after that weekend I returned the ASI it handled my daughter and I and streaming but when the boys came over that weekend and there were only four of them instead of the nine they were upset because it kept lagging which I guess is very bad when you’re a gamer. So after that weekend I returned the ASUS And purchased another D link ultra 3200. Once again my boys are back in business and I have had no complaints from them

I had a few dead spots in the corners of my house, so I decided to shell out the $400 and replace my 1 1/2 year old Netgear X6 (which was a superb router)... 1st received Asus AC5300 had a busted antenna, so it took forever for me to get it replaced (have your order deliver to your house of you buy it from Besbuy.com, cause router is not available in stores, therefore it is a complete hassle to have it repaired/replaced if you order on line and pick it up at store. Don't make the same mistake I made)... The Router has an awesome look and its massive in size. It looks like something out of StarWars, and although it's missing the extra 2 LAN connections that the Netgear X8 (comparable competition model) has, the Asus makes it up in performance. Coverage is exceptional and best of all, Asus has a much better software than all of the competition combined... A nice software feature is the ability of the Asus to combine all the 3 bands (2.4Ghz, 5.0Ghz A and 5.0Ghz B) all in one, giving users only 1 Wifi to connect to, and the Asus router's hardware/software does a perfect job in placing the connected devices on the perfect band, depending on type and distance of any given device. It works like a champ... On other routers, you would have to choose on either 2.4 'or' 5.0 bands, not allowing you to take advantage of the benefits of each band, like the Asus software does. It makes a huge difference in the traffic of your network.... The Asus also has a decent APP, that lets you do pretty much everything, from blocking users, to give time limit to other users or guests, and even have the capability to shut off router altogether (awesome for those with kids and Internet time management)... The only reason I gave it 4 stars, was the price. I feel that my old Netgear X6 router, would give this new Asus a run for its money, and are very close in speed and coverage, and being almost $150 less, I think I would have stayed with my old Netgear X6... Just for the price... If you have the cash, and want top end Wifi performance, this Asus is hands down the best your money can buy!

This unit has coverage all the other manufacturers promise but can’t deliver. Easy setup and has features for both a mature and advanced users. It has an available VPN that you can actually set up and use. Intuitive tools and settings. The best thing out now is that this can be made a mesh system with other routers in the ASUS family. I have two of these and an AC3100 in my house covering 3 stories and a deck. The range is excellent and the network is stable. This is hands down the best mesh system available at the consumer level. I tried Eero, Orbi, Velop and several others. None of them had the speed, range and stability that this system provides. I have had mixed dealings with their tech support. The ability to mesh these units is relatively new and I’m finding that the tier 1 support people are poorly trained on the product and process. They don’t advertise it, but these can be a wired backhaul as well as wireless. Tier 1 support doesn’t seem to know anything about the wired backhaul. It seems that to get two 5300’s set up as a master and node, it needs a wired connection to properly setup. Overall, it’s a small glitch in the grand scheme of things.

We tried a Netgear Nighthawk as an upgrade, and it was great for two weeks before trouble started. So we then stepped up a notch to this baby. Can you spend more? Yes. But you don’t have to — this is a relatively future-proof device that delivers quality and exceptional performance with easy set-up. Speed/coverage are both excellent. Can you spend less? Of course, but you won’t match the features of this great device. Do it once & do it right. Get this and you’re safe for 5-6 years, no problem.

The router itself has everything you could want. The wtfast network is very limited and I noticed very little change in turning it on and off for my wow and diablo connections. Be nice if it had more psn compatibility. Router security, range, and speed are perfect. Easy setup for basic use. Obviously vpn and other features take some tweaking.

I have owned and used a Asus RT-AC3100 and Asus RT AC1750 b-1 router and they work have worked Great..All 3 Routers have the Trend Micro AiProtection built into the router and it is great protection for your local network..I upgrade my Asus RT AC3100 with the Asus RT AC5300 version because of the price of $281 and it was worth it..the AC5300 does give me about a 20percent increase in range in my 2 story house and stronger signal on the 2.4ghz,5ghz-2 & 5Ghz-1 wifi bands..one thing I will say is you Definitely have to have the 8 antennas oriented the way the Asus manual recommends to get the best and strongest wifi signal..these routers are power houses...both the AC3100 & AC5300 handle over the 30 devices (which include wifi Security cams, doorbell cam, 3 Roku’s,1 apple TV, iPhones, tablets plus I run my business from home with several Pc’s connected etc..)I have connected to them via wifi or hardwired without any lag..

    Fantastic range, good signal, customizable

Fantastic router. My old router was approximately 8 years old, the signal would not reach the furthest rooms in my house, and obviously not in the garage, or back / front yard. I had also started to run into issues with the new and old wifi equipment. Old gadgets utilized the slower 2.4 GHz signal, and could not use the 5Ghz signal. This caused congestion and slowed down my whole wifi. This router puts out three bands, one 2.4 GHz, and two 5GHz. Now I can run the old gadgets on 2.4 GHz, and the new ones on one of the 5GHz bands, splitting them up based on speed and location. The signal also reaches the garage, back yard, and the front. Furthermore, the router will automatically "move" the user to the more appropriate band when the bandwidth, or distance to router dictates the user would get faster speed if moved to a different band. The set up is very user friendly. The options are many, from parental controls, to security and logic algorithms (for moving users to different bands, etc...). You can customize the set up as much, or as little as you want. The cost of this router is the only downside. However, while it is expensive, I plan on keeping it for many years. Thus paying upfront now for this fantastic router, I will still have a good router 5 years from now, and a functional router 10 years from now.

First time with Asus router, and for the past years I've used Apple routers, which were good, but offered limited control. This router does it all. Although it's sometimes finicky to connect to the admin console, once you get it up and running it doesn't disappoint. Range and speed are fantastic, to the point I now don't need two routers as I did before. You can adjust absolutely everything on this router, and even do deep-level programming. You can also add a USB drive and use it as a NAS drive/media server/Time Machine Backup disk. Only downsides is this doesn't have a wall mounting option, and this thing is HUGE (about the size of a Nintendo Wii plus the antennas. Only other thing I'd ask for (which I expect will come soon) is DD-WRT compatibility.

Hello. I am, or consider myself to be somewhat computer savvy and I like to have the "latest and greatest" equipment as I am very picky and want the best performance from my computer equipment. I work at home and spend 12 to 14 hours a day on the computer so have a pretty good idea of what I am doing... I have purchased most of what are called the "flagship" routers... Linksys EA9500 Max-Stream™ AC5400 which lasted about 2 hours before returning to the store, also the Netgear Nighthawk X8 AC5300 and theNetgear Nighthawk X6 AC3200 which were also returned to the store. Without getting into all of the negatives of the Linksys and Netgear equipment I will make it short and sweet... The Asus routers (and not just this model RT-AC5300) have more robust user interfaces, more options for things like naming convections for the networks (characters allowed like the $ sign for example), the number of guest networks you can set up (Asus allows for the primary networks with depending on the router can be 2 or 3 such as the RT-AC5300 allows for 3 primary and 6 guest networks and an "old RT-AC87 I have allows for 2 primary and 6 guest networks)... the other brands limit you to 2 and 3 guest networks... this dose not work for me... Another difference... Asus allows for 32 QoS rules and the others are limited to like 3, a huge difference... Network protection... only Asus has built in antivirus which is powered by Trend Micro, parental controls built in whereas the others require a download of additional software... Something else that may or may not impress, but only Asus has a nice user interface that MAKES SENSE and has nice little (or should I say large) buttons to click on to either logout or reboot.. the others have these functions buried and hidden that pretty much no average user will every find them. If you do not want to "experiment" and run back and forth to the store trying to find the right equipment... buy Asus and be happy... I own 2 routers, gave a third to my children and have several laptops that are also Asus. I have been happy with this brand for many years.

I have used many different router in the past, mostly mid-range routers. After the last router went on the fritz, I decided to elect for a high end router. After months of research and decision making, I choose this router. Upon setting and using it for 2 months, I can say that this router is SUPER great. The webpages are loaded a lot faster, even under heavy loads and that is saying something when I typically get about 18 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload. It seems like the router is storing parts of the website until it has full retrieved all of it, then it sends it to the computer. At any point during the day, this router is connected to at least 10 devices and I have never seen a hiccup. I think the coolest feature is the admin page. The user interface is super easy to use and has SO many features. Though, on that point, I would love it more if ASUS would give more details about how to set up the VPN and AIProtection. These features were a little bit hard to figure out to enable them. But, I still really like this router. Now, as for longevity, I have only had this router for 2 months, so if fails, then I will update this review.

I have been very picky when it comes to WiFi Routers. This by far took the top of my list. I have a large home and way its built it has choppy areas, well at least did. Now even in my temporary area it's on one side of home and works amazing. I really cant come up with anything negative, only thing to me is it takes a moment on refresh of actual devices on the network. Again, this is worth the money and especially if you have a larger home it's the only way to go. I cant wait to finish up my network to add on two more Asus Routers as additional access points, but will setup to be seperate access for different IOT Devices and one will also be for Smart Devices only. However, I'm not in a rush as this really can handle it all. Amazing device and most certainly buy it.

One word best describes this wifi router and it's called "beast". This is beast of a wifi router, super fast, easy to install and set up , great management app all in all best wifi router by far. I had my doubts going into this at first especially with the price but after buying it and using it for over a month I will never go back to anything else. Worth every penny, this thing makes your internet blazing fast. I recommend to all who have more than 15 items log on to their wifi, this will handle any task and still perform at a high level. This is more for Power users and non-power users who have multiple items at home connected to the Wi-Fi. Asus is known through the tech world as one of the best and they live up to their name in this Wi-Fi system.

Great features and great range. Unfortunately it is marketed to have gaming priority features yet the base firmware does not have it! I had to download Merlin-WRT to have the added features. Now compare this to TP-Link archer c5400 and it does everything this can at a cheaper price! So if you want great features and performance for pess - go with TP-LINK. But if you are a fan boy - go for the ASUS
