Very easy setup, just plugged it in and it worked.. tinkered with the settings and is a very user friendly and powerful interface. Came from years of Linksys and I am very pleased with Asus, although I have been happy with other Asus products through the years too. I am excited to try the AiMesh which was a selling point for me, but the AX series do not appear to support this feature. I do not game on WiFi, so the AX was not a necessity.

The router came in good packaging and was easy to set up. Right away your taken to a menu that can seem intimidating at first but will become welcome after some trouble shooting. I have a home media server four smart tvs and two gaming systems and everything runs smooth and never buffers. The Asus offers a great qos option to set up your internet speeds and tailor them based on application. Improved my speeds and ping with online gaming and never disconnects. This things a winner!!

Very Fast Router

I bought the Asus RT-AC5300 to replace the Asus RT-AC87R (AC2400) which was a fast router which had frequent problems with the 5G frequency. Both routers are fast but the AC5300 is noticeably faster on both the ethernet connection and with the 2.4G and 5G wifi connections.
Although this router is very fast and reliable I am only giving it 4 stars because the router has many settings which can be adjusted but Asus gave little information in the installation pdf as to how I might tweak the settings for my use.
I would like to suggest that buyers of this router go to https://routerguide.net/generic-optimization-guides/ for information on the various settings that are adjustable on this router. For those using Apple TV, iPhones and iPads I would recommend that you read about the following 3 settings on this website:
1. WMM APSD
2. AP Isolate
3. IGMP Snooping
These 3 settings are found under the Advanced Settings > Wireless>Professional Tab on the router setup pages.
If Asus would add this kind of information to their installation guide they would avoid a lot of customer calls about the router not working properly. Many problems arise because the default settings are not correct for how the customers are using the router. Specifically: gaming versus net surfing versus mirroring cell phones or tablets for controlling television viewing.
If Asus would greatly improve the setup guide then I would upgrade my rating for this product from 4 to 5 stars.

This router was just released and it is incredible. It's giving wireless speed stronger than my friends direct connected Internet on our Xbox Ones, and we both have Comcast blast! Giving me 180 Mbps directly and 179 wirelessly. Asus really found the diamond in the rough this go 'round! Perfect for any user. Especially for gaming!

I have two AC5300 with 1gb fiber connection. I replaced horrible Netgear Orbi ac3000 system which didn't work well with mobile devices.
Pros
- I get 729 mbps to my Xbox One X using AI mesh node
- I get 800mbps download through my 3500 sq house
- It blocks any security threats to all my devices
- I have 26 plus devices

I like the router and have been using it now for 1 year. The only problem I have is when my microwave turns on it causes interference with my router. I know they both have 2.4ghz which causes that. But the last router I had never had that problem. As far as range its good as I have a single story 2700sq home. So inhave rooms on both ends of the house. I have all smart tvs, phones,, computers and Ps4 in the house. Everybody can donthere thing with not Buffering except when the microwave turns on. However I love the fact it is 2 channel frequency which helps because i can have those that are closest to the router use 5ghz channel and the ones farther from it use 2.4ghz channel. Over all.its a good router that covers the whole house . I would recommend.

I've read many reviews and compared the technical data between Netgear R8500, Linksys EA9500 and this Asus. I tried the Netgear and Linksys but ended up exchanging both. This Asus has the best overall build quality and custom features. If you don't want to spend the extra $ and don't care about custom firmware or advanced features then I would recommend getting the Netgear or Linksys EA9500. I wanted to like the Linksys model but it had poor design and lack of firmware features/custom firmware. I've been using Asus products for a long time (motherboards, videocards, networking) and SOMETIMES Asus quality is hit or miss. Of the reviews on Newegg, 50% of people got defective units or had issues. This Asus router has the BEST signal, and after trying the Netgear and Linksys, it definitely has better signal. I'm getting 350 mbps down on my desktop with an Asus PCE-AC68 AC1900 network card.

This is a very fast router using either the wifi or Ethernet connections. It has very good range for the signal. The only problem that I have had with this router is that it weekly will stop working for about a minute and then resume working. This happens with both the Ethernet and the wifi connections. The leds on the router indicate that everything is ok even though the router has stopped.sending and receiving..

I am a long time Asus supporter. Currently using a RT-AC87R that has been an excellent router but wanted to upgrade to a newer more powerful router due to extra family now staying in the house. I have over 25 devices connected at a time. When I connected the AC5300 my expectations were that I would see at least the same speed and a greater range than I currently have. That was not the case. Range did not increase greatly but it did increase some. The thing that caused me to return the router was that it continued to drop connection to devices. Was really wanting this to work but just could not get stable connections. Even at the sale cost I got that was well under $300 it just wasn't worth it.

Switched from cable to U-Verse and lost my ethernet connection to my bridge because AT&T needed to have both twisted pairs of my phone line to get their designated U-verse speed. (I was using the unused pair to ethernet connect to a phone jack in the bedroom and this connected to a bridge to provide WiFi to my whole house.) With no bridge capability, I tried to buy a great router to cover the whole house. The ASUS 5300 provides this service but does not cover the basement as well as I had with cable and a bridge. So, even though this router is working, it has only provided minor improvements to the situation I already had with AT&T and is worse than what I had with cable and a bridge. Super mega speeds don't apply since I'm only getting 46Mbps from AT&T. Also, upstairs WIFI connections seem slow at times and I'm not sure if its AT&T, the router, or the website. (Isn't tech fun?)

The range in this router is great it goes far even the speed on 2.4 ghz is great. The only issues I had was with xbox live and my epson printer. Theres a box to check in the routers settings for xbox I checked it and it made the connection far worse, leave that box unchecked it works better. You cant change the mtu in this router its stuck at 1492 xbox recomends 1480. Also this router wouldnt connect to my printer I call support no luck. I had to return it but I really wanted it to work I tried everything

Bought this router to upgrade my aging Netgear router. Very good router, very good speeds and excellent range. Between streaming devices, game consoles and all the other IoT devices my home (prob more than 30), this router handles them all with no lag, no drops, etc. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a new router or an upgrade.

Purchased this to be the host of my home network for greater security using NordVPN. Very easy to set up. This really sends a strong signal throughout our 3 story home.
When I say this is a beast, I mean it's huge in size, and it certainly looks the part. It took over a cabinet top where once a printer resided.

I used to have my router box from my ISP and multie WiFi extenders to have signal strength throughout my house because my ISP router was weak. When I purchase this ASUS router the signal strength is beyond impressive that I did not need WiFi extender anymore. I get full bars all over my house and signal reaches 30 feet outside from my house.

This is thing is a beast when it works. We got one and it produces 3 SSIDa, or you can “merge” them into 1 or 2 SSIDs and have the router automatically assign devices to a specedic channel. This is an amazing feature and the only reason it gets a second star.
The problem is that myself and several others with this product are having is one of the 5ghz broadcasts dropping about every hour requiring a reboot. It’s not as bad if you don’t update the firmware, but then you are vulnerable to major security bugs. I wouldn’t reccomend getting this until they release a new firmware fixing the connectivity issues, or just waiting for whatever new version ASUS come out with and hope they learned from their mistakes.

Pretty much plug and play. Hardest part was attaching the antennas and that was easy. There are just lots of them. Well worth it though. The range on this thing is amazing. Out performs my old router + range extender combo by a lot. Speeds are great. No issues at all so far.

It's definitely not the cheapest router out there but I've had no problems with it and it has exceeded my expectations. It has great coverage and seems to handle all whatever devices are thrown at it with more than acceptable speeds.
