Still working from home and my internet has progressively been getting worse. We had the modem replaced and it still wasn’t right so we decided to replace our 5 year old $80 modem with this. It works great! We’ve had it about a month and have not had one issue

with 5 handheld devices, 3 laptops and TVs at home, we needed an upgrade and this router worked like a charm for us. My teenage son had resorted to going to the "good internet" part of the house to watch Netflix on his phone so we decided to make the change and now the whole house has the "good internet" connection.

This router is really good for coverage but some of the settings to get tweaked were a pain in the neck. Airprint still giving me fits with this router but I am on the home stretch. Range is excellent, but be prepared to spend some time setting this up the right way.

This is a very powerful router, got this to upgrade from a Asus 68p. I have comcast Gigabyte internet. The 68p was having trouble with that speed. I got this, which is about the same range of wifi, but higher ram and cpu. The problem is for some reason the Asus 5300 cannot get an IPv6 Address from comcast ever other device does inculding the Asus68p. I have gotten IPv6 from my modem for my PC, Labtop, XBOX ONE, Blu-ray player, and Asus 68p router. I tried using Asus Stock Frimware and Asus Merlin Frimware, but no luck. I looked online I am not the only one with this problem. I think it maybe a hardware with software problem. I need IPv6 for Internet gaming. If this one problem is fixed it will be 5 stars

I have several high end routers. The last one being the nighthawk x8. I have had issues with my internet over the past couple years. This is by far the best router I have had. My speeds are significantly faster (40mbs faster than the x8). Could not be more pleased.

I upgraded to this router so I could create the AiMesh system in my home. I have a lot of walls and a downstairs. This router and my ac2600 have blanketed my house. I don’t have a sub network anymore so I don’t worry about switching.

I have a 4800 square foot single story house with spotty wifi coverage. I stream all my TV and home products through my wifi. Since I purchased this product I no longer need boosters. Overall performance is great. Wifi coverage is even better.

We have 5 people in our house of which we all love our electronics! 2 PS4s, 1 PS3, everyone has a phone and 1 laptop. They can be gaming and streaming Netflix without lagging. And the range is better than what we had before. We really like it.

Great Router with a Few Short Comings

This is a review of the Asus RT-AC5300.  I’m not going to get all techy; but just give you IMO what the average person is concerned with. That being said the Asus RT-AC5300 is not a router that the average person needs and may disappoint those accustomed to an Apple Time Capsule (I’ll explain later). There are less expensive alternatives that will suffice for most. Furthermore, there are no wireless devices on the market that can take full advantage of the speeds offered by this beast. Only a handful are capable of using the MU-MIMO feature which happen to be a few select cell phones – no PC’s. This router is designed for those who have: - A large area to cover and/or thru walls - More than 5 devices connecting simultaneously (PC’s, cell phones, tablets, game consoles, internet phone and other devices) - Simultaneous video streaming and/or gaming - The enthusiast who likes to fine-tune their routing settings - Those who want to future-proof their network - Those with an excess of disposable income Here are the manufacturer highlights copied from the Asus website. If you are unfamiliar with some of the terms you can research them via Google: - Tri-band (dual 5 GHz, single 2.4 GHz) with the latest 802.11ac 4x4 technology for maximum throughput (5334 Mbps) and coverage (up to 5,000 sq. ft.) - MU-MIMO technology enables multiple compatible clients to connect at each client's respective maximum speed - Built-in access to WTFast Gamers Private Network (GPN) of route-optimized servers ensures low, stable ping times for gaming - AiProtection Powered by Trend Micro provides multi-stage protection from vulnerability detection to protecting sensitive data - ASUS Smart Connect delivers consistent bandwidth by dynamically switching devices between 2.4 and 5 GHz bands based on speed, load and signal strength I can attest that the information given by Asus is spot-on in terms of performance. The range of the Asus RT-AC5300 is incredible. The signal strength is amazing. I have four (4) wireless PC’s. Here’s the sustained signal strength I get at 10 feet (direct line of site) and at 30 feet (through a wall). My ISP is Google Fiber at 1Gb. All are connecting to the Asus RT-AC5300 via 802.11 ac (unless otherwise indicated) utilizing ASUS Smart Connect described above: - Apple MBP (early 2011) 17” – 450 Mbps / 345 Mbps (802.11 n) - Apple MBP (late 2013) 15” – 1300 Mbps / 702 Mbps - Apple MBP (mid 2014) 13”- 1300 Mbps / 702 Mbps - Microsoft Surface Book (2015) – 865 Mbps / 643 Mbps The Asus RT-AC5300 also has no problem sending a 1GB signal via Ethernet over a long run. I also have two (2) wired desktops. An iMac 27" and a Dell Optiplex 380 SFF both late 2009 models. I ran 50-ft of Ethernet cable between the Asus RT-AC5300 and an Asus RP-68U Dual Band AC1900 Range Extender/Repeater. The iMac and Dell are connected to the Asus RP-68U via Ethernet cable (10-ft and 15-ft respectively). Both receive a 1GB signal provided by Google Fiber. FYI, you can read my review of the Asus RP-68U here on Amazon. The Asus version of WRT Open Source firmware makes for a powerful and user friendly web interface that gives a high degree of customization. Most will use the default settings unless you are skilled in router settings adjustment. For all its attributes the Asus RT-AC5300 falls short in a few areas. The main one for me was Time Machine (TM) compatibility. I found it very un-reliable. I tried a Lacie Porsche 4Tb USB 3.0 external drive and a G-Technology 4Tb USB 3.0 external drive attached to the Asus RT- AC5300 with the following results: - The drive would take a longtime to be found - TM would indicate preparing backup sometimes over 20 minutes - Back-ups were slow - Back-ups would become corrupt and necessitate another full back-up Another issue I found annoying is that the router would sporadically wake the attached drive and cause it to start spinning or not allow it to spin-down after a back-up. As most know that wears down the write-head and generates damaging heat. The only solutions were to login to the router user interface and dismount the drive or through the computer desktop. Both solutions were un-acceptable and often resulted in having to re-assign the drive to TM. As I previously had an Apple Time Capsule for over 2 years and never experienced the issues described above my only conclusion was to attribute them to the Asus RT- AC5300. Maybe Asus will address the issue(s) with a firmware update. So my advice to those hoping to use the Asus RT-AC5300 with Time Machine is to steer clear as it may be a game changer especially if more than one Apple PC is in play. In fact the NetGear Nighthawk AC5300 X8 is a more reliable TM device. FYI, since my laptops (save the MBP 13”) are basically used as desktops replacements I just connected the appropriate size G-Technology external drive to each one. I set TM to only run when connected to power so it isn’t looking for a drive (or attempting) to run a back-up if I happen to move away from the external drive. My Surface Book backs-up to a NetGear NAS via Nova Backup so it’s a non-issue. That being said I have other uses where the Asus RT-AC5300 is much better than the Apple Time Capsule such as coverage, web interface, Smart Connect, Gaming, better support for a mixed environment and Link Aggregation for up to 2 Gb transfer speed to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. Although the Asus RT- AC5300 falls short when it comes to LED status lights versus a NetGear Nighthawk AC5300 X8; it still outshines the Apple Time Capsule in this area. I might add that I exchanged my NetGear Nighthawk AC5300 X8 in favor of the Asus RT- AC5300. In conclusion I’m very satisfied with the Asus RT-AC5300 even though its TM performance is subpar. IMO the benefits out-weigh the negatives. If you are a dedicated Windows user, the TM aspects are of no consequence. I highly recommend giving the Asus RT-AC5300 a look if you want to have the best that technology has to offer and future proofing.

My husband and I read a lot of reviews before we ended up buying this router. We have been very pleased with the purchase and don't have any complaints. It's very big so make sure you have room wherever you're planning on putting it.

The router has strong singles in a wide area. I did return it to bestbuy as it arrived 3 days late so i purchased the same unit from walmart with an additional 4 year warranty savings $60+ dollars. Little over priced at Best Buy.

Was getting around 100mbps before this router on a 300mbps plan through time warner. After installation, I actually got a little more than 300mbps. Very satisfied. ASUS also has a great app to use with this router.

This is the best router I have ever used or purchased. It is on the pricey side, but securely accessing the internet is priceless. I had some issues staying connected for about a month where I had to keep resetting everything but now it's great.
