The laptop has two SSD slots - one is occupied by the 1TB SSD it ships with, and the other is empty. You do not need to remove the 1TB SSD to add more storage. You can, however, remove it and add a larger SSD in its place.

If your intention is to have a full increase MORE space then you have to remove initial OS drive. Keep in mind you will need to clone or reload the OS. Also make sure the Series is the same do not mismatch Example ---4800 x2 not 5200 with 4800 in the slots.
