If you are doing basic things in silent mode, it is warm to the touch. If you are doing intensive things or running big games, on performance or turbo fan settings, it will be hot to the touch. Hot enough, that for example, you would not want to set it in your lap.

Although, I've had it reach temps up to 98C(I didn't give it the proper airflow) and it be just fine so the hotter temps don't really impact performance.
