Is the empty SSD slot Gen 3x4 or Gen 4x4 ? null

Yes, it's a dual slot. One space made available. It accepts gen 4, not sure about gen 3. The Samsung 990 pro fits, with of without heatsink. A bit a tight fit with the heatsink attached.
