This is try that ddr5 memory can run 1 stick in dual channel mode when laptop will separate one stick on two independent 40bit channel instead of 64 bit one, but looks like this is not TRUE dual channel. And for TRUE dual channel at least for ddr4 you have to use sticks with same capasity or they will run in hybrid dual channel mode when only 8 onboard memory and 8 memory from your 32gb stick will run in dual channel mode and another 16gb... I am not sure this is a good idea...
