Hello, This router is not capable of modem functions. You will need to keep or upgrade your existing modem and use with this router. The modem's sole purpose is to communicate/receive signal from the ISP (Internet Service Provider) eg. comcast, charter, etc. A 2 in 1 is typically called a Gateway and has both modem and router functions built in. Your modem should have 2 connections/ports. 1 Coaxial input, and 1 RJ-45 ethernet/network port. This router has 1 RJ-45 input port, and 4 RJ-45 output ports. Connection Order: Connect the Coaxial Cable to the modem, then connect an RJ-45 ethernet cable to the Modem, then connect the other end of the RJ-45 ethernet cable to the ASUS Router input port. You may need to do some configuring. Hope this helps.
