- Answer I bought it for my son's room for gaming PC. As we live in a rural area, limited low internet speed.it is a direct ethernet connecte to his pc and internet has jumped up to 10+mbps , and the wifi coverage is great..We live in a 3000 sq ft home..I will be on the other end of the house from his room where router is located and still have full bars..Hope that helps..

QuestionHow many devices can this router handle?

- Answer We have 3 cell phones, 5 TVs, an XBox, a desktop computer, and 3 laptops all hooked up to it. About half of those are being actively used at any given time, and at least 2 or 3 are typically streaming video. It seems to handle the volume wuite well.

- Answer No it's not you can go onto your web browser and type in 192.168. 1.1 to set up the router and set up 5g and 2.4g connections.

QuestionThe chat person told me this router would work with Verizon fios. I bought it! I don't see how it connects. Where does the co axial cable go? Anyone use this with Fios? Please explain. Thanks!

- Answer I think you need a Fios modem. There are no coaxial connections to the router. A modem will have the coaxial input and one RS232 connector that will connect to the router; probably have a phone connector too. Call Verizon and ask for a modem. They will probably have the Arris modem. That is the one cable uses and is most popular. You can buy the Arris modem as well. If you buy one you'll have to give Verizon the mac address of the modem to activate and connect to their network. Its a learning curve for sure. But the router works great.

- Answer No, they are basic RGB as in the sense of gaming decor. There are 3 color modes you can choose from (with some customization in 2 of the modes) but they are strictly for aesthetics. They can also be turned completely off.

- Answer I found the Asus AX5400 (aka RT-AX82U) to cover my 2500 sq/ft home effectively. It is also part of Asus AiMesh, allowing the addition/connection of other Mesh capable devices to expand wifi reach.

QuestionIf I buy this, would I have to buy any specific cables such as a new ethernet cable or power cords? Would I also have to contact my internet provider to switch routers?

- Answer Short answer is no on cables. And my provider does not care what router I use as long as I pay their monthly fee LOL It comes with a wan cable and it's own power source. Other then that and letting it do all the latest updates and me changing the default logins I did not have to do anything to be up and running

QuestionDoes this router get hot? My old asus router gets pretty hot! I don't know why they don't put a heat sink on the processor, to dissipate the heat it produces. This alone, would extend the life of the router!

- Answer Hard to tell which router this is asking about based on how Best Buy asked me. I recently returned a Netgear Nighthawk RAX48. It had 4 ethernet ports to be used for your connections as well as the connection for your WAN (modem). My new router, ASUS RT-AX82U has the same exact number of connections. The ASUS is a much better router in my opinion, both speed, interface and Android app. Hope that helps!

- Answer The wireless router has been good for me, I recommend it. As long as both routers support Ai Mesh you can set up this router to mimic what the primary router uses. The only issue I had with using Ai Mesh is my Google Home speaker kept getting confused and would sometimes work and other times it would say I need to set up the speaker again. I stopped using Ai Mesh and the speaker has continued to work normal.

QuestionWhy is my internet speed slower over my lan vs wireless? All my lan equipment is rated at 1gb and cat6 cabling. My router is seeing 900mbps and my computer on the lan is only seeing 500mbps? Any ideas? Thanks

- Answer You should see close to wan router speed on a lan connection if no other traffic is on the line. Here are some things to check. 1. Dont use speedtest.net because it chooses a server to test with and that server may limit your speed. Try fast.com instead or try to select a different server is speedtest.net. 2. Make sure you have QOS turned off on the router. This may be limiting the speed. Its under the Settings in the app. Also in the upper right hand corner of the app's home page make sure you havent prioritized/profiled your traffic by hitting the speed icon. 3. Hopefully you have tried to use a different cable and different port and different laptop to validate it isnt one of these. 4. I have no idea how long your run is to the router but you might want to do the same test using a short cable next to the router to rule that out. 5. Look at the traffic analyzer under Settings > Diagnostics > Traffic Statistics and verify that there isnt something else using up lots of bandwidth when you are not testing. I am able to get near wan speed on my pc and that is through two switches and about 100 ft. of cat 6. Good luck and I hope this helps.
