I believe the Asus folks may have misunderstood your issue. Since you have returned it, this is more for other folks looking to buy, but for you as well CathyG if you happen to read it. The next time you have to call att, or any ISP, just tell them you need your gateway (name for a modem/router combo) "bridged" if they tell you they can't do it, ask for a supervisor or for level 2 support, because what's flat out untrue and they are either being lazy or they aren't very well trained. If that fails or doesn't get you anywhere, just Google the gateway model with the word bridge after it. I guarantee there's a guide somewhere. Gateways typically have somewhat lousy wifi modules in them so a self bought router will almost always give you better performance so it's worth the extra steps.
