• Yes you must have a wifi connection/service available to connect to. It's a wireless network adapter which merely enables your compatible device to connect to a wifi service/connection (adds wifi connectivity option on your device without having to use an Ethernet). As for the tablet I'm not sure as I don't know what kind you have.
