This model has 1x Socket (one slot installed with 4GB) + [4GB on board] and can go to a maximum of 16GB.

As for ram, this should be the same as mine. It had soldered 8gb ram already, and I installed a 8gb stick in the slot, making it 16gb of ram, and there are 16gb sticks and also 32gb sticks and work just fine in my laptop, and should be no different from this laptop on sale either. Just go to amazon and look up my model, and they are selling different versions with 8gb, 15gb, 20gb, 32gb, and 40gm ram. So this laptop should do exact same. Only reason this ASUS person is saying what he did is because they are not trained enough to say the correct information, and most companies do this. They just say what comes to their head and give false information. Do not trust everything you get information wise from the manufacturer, since they don't train their employees correctly.
