I purchased a non-ECC, unbuffered 16GB DDR4-3200 SODIMM - exactly as the ASUS answer above states - and it didn't work.

If the information is not available on the manufacturer website, read it off the pre-installed memory stick. Failing this, you can always get the correct memory from a notable manufacturer, like Kingston or Crucial, though you may have to pay a little bit more for not buying a "generic" stick.
