The phone has a digital answering machine that is silent when recording the message.

See manual: DTAD setup Call screening Use this feature to choose whether incoming messages can be heard over the speaker when they are being recorded. If you turn call screening on, you hear the incoming private message on your telephone when a call comes in. 1. Press [ENTER]. 2. Press [ ] or [ ] until you see DTAD SETUP. Press [ENTER]. 3. Press [ ] or [ ] until you see CALL SCREENING. 4. Press [ ] or [ ] to choose ON or OFF. NOTE: If the Do Not Disturb (DND) feature is active (page 15), the call screening feature is disabled
