“Can I put a phone call "on hold" on this phone. It takes my elderly husband a long time to get to a phone he can actually "hear" on, like my landline.”

The phone does not have an "on hold" button. I don't know whether this will help, but the phone has two features to improve hearing the other person while using the phone. One is the "audio assist" button which, according to the instructions, "makes the sound louder and clearer while on a call." The other is the volume control button which, according to the instructions, during a phone call you can "press to adjust the listening volume." This is the first landline I've purchased with these two features.
