Yes it does, the speaker in the handset can be used as a speaker phone. My parents (one wears hearing aids and the other should consider them!) use it this way a lot. The ringer is plenty loud even on the lowest setting. I don't believe there is a speaker phone built into the base station part, but I know the handset can be used as a speaker phone. Sound quality is better than the similar set up my parents had until the buttons wore out, so that one was prolly 10 years old.
