I have a prepaid att service which gives me 22gb per month of LTE data. I only get two bars most of the time with this Nighthawk device but I’m still able to get speeds as high as around 20mb down and 5 mb up. If you want to invest in a cell booster kit from a company like Wilson electronics or WeBoost you can get much better results. The speeds fluctuate depending on the current cell reception but I’m able to stream Netflix and YouTube videos and browse the internet no problem. The only thing that is a little wonky is when trying to online game. It’s definitely usable for online gaming but the poor ping time makes the opponents on the screen jump around. Your character doesn’t flutter much at all but your opponents do. I’m actually gonna try connecting this modem to a separate router and then connect the PlayStation to the Internet via an Ethernet cable. Maybe that’ll Improve things just enough to help that issue. The nighthawk comes with its own AT&T SIM card so you don’t need to get one separately. I used to have the netgear LB1120 which worked okay but the biggest difference is the category that each device is. The LB1120 is a category 4 device which only allows connection to a single cell tower. It also only allows speeds of 150mb down and 50 mb up. I was getting somewhere around 6 mb down and 2 mb up. The new Nighthawk modem/router is a category 16 device which means it can connect to up to four cell towers at the same time allowing higher speeds. The max speeds for this are 1 gb down and 150 mb up. I’m actually very happy so far with this device and it has given my wife and I our internet back. We moved to the country where there are no options other than satellite internet which is not only terribly data capped but also ridiculously expensive. Just remember that if this device doesn’t work out for you Best Buy charges a 45 dollar restocking fee if you return it, so keep that in mind. I would also just make sure that you actually have decent ATT coverage in your area before going this route. If you have even enough for a couple of bars then you should be fine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have this and love it. I’m traveling and can work from the car. I use this when I reach my northern home in the middle of nowhere. Works for me!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will get high speed cellular LTE. This device is great for traveling or those living in rural areas that can’t get cable or fiber optic internet. Your internet all depends on your proximity to the cell tower. You need a good unlimited cellular plan if this is what you’re using for home internet.
