Having grown up playing the Atari 2600, I can honestly say, 'I love the VCS!' The classic joystick controller is by far the coolest thing about the VCS. Not only is it a modern twist on a classic joystick, it doubles as the paddle control that came with the 2600. The console is bundled with several classic Atari games to help bring back early childhood memories. I also use my VCS as a Windows PC so there's even more reason to love this console. I ignored the reviews and took a chance and I'm glad I did.

You have a modern controller which I use all the time and a "retro" controller which you can play a lot of the games with. The time you'll probably play with the retro controller is when you play either the Atari Vault 1 or Atari Vault 2. Atari Vault 1 comes with 100 games and is included with the system. Tempest, Lunar Lander and more can be played using either controller and the retro controller (resembling the old controllers from Atari) spins from the handle and rumbles when playing games. There are some cool games on the store with more in the works and with the system you can play Antstream arcade which is a service that works perfectly with the VCS to play a lot of retro games, over 1000. Some people might not like Antstream but I've come to really appreciate it. Also, you can use airstream I believe its called to play games via your phone.. its okay depending on the games your playing.. like trivia games and through the chrome browser you can use a website called piepacker which you have to register for.. free that allows you to play more games. Just yesterday on google it was said that the Atari maybe getting the xbox cloud gaming service (I think that's what its called) and you can hit two buttons on the controller (modern) and the Atari controller will emulate an xbox controller to play games. Speaking of which, if you are a Stadia user .. you can also play Google Stadia games through the chrome browser and it plays perfectly! The VCS has a slot inside for an M.2 SSD which allows for either more storage, or another operating system. Some people are running Windows.. Others Linux and some using variations to run emulators to play retro games from other systems! Coolest thing I've heard though I can't confirm is Atari is setting up the rights to perhaps put out older games from other Atari systems on the VCS such as Atari Jaguar and Atari Lynx games which I'm hoping for! The system isn't anywhere near as powerful as XBox or Playstation and those expecting it will be disappointed but if you're looking for a system that has a lot of potential.. its not a bad system at all! I'm in fact running Zorin Linux now via the VCS and typing this review. Hopefully this helps in some way to anyone considering buying the system. It may not be perfect but its fun!
