“Do you have to buy speakers to use with the turntable, or will the sound directly from the turntable be good enough? I’m looking to buy a new record player that’s actually good bc the crosley didn’t hold up, but i don’t want to spend too much on speakers.”

You need speakers! No sound without them. I purchased "powered speakers" by Edifier (R1280T) for $100. Love them. Saves buying a receiver. Speakers must be 'powered' without a receiver. Good luck.
