You need to get an august connect if you want operate it remotely around the world. It's standalone only when you near by.

The lock works on Bluetooth only so the app, without Wi-Fi will work the lock only within the range of the Bluetooth. If you want true remote operation you need the bridge.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.In order to have your lock communicate through your Wi-Fi you will need to buy the Connect Wi-Fi bridge. Without this your lock is only working with the Bluetooth connection to your phone. I have the bridge and I am very happy with it. You can set it up to know where you are and when you are getting close to home it knows to start looking for your phone over Bluetooth. It will then unlock the door as you approach. It's a very convenient function. Also you are able to check on the status of your lock anywhere as well as lock and unlock it.

I didn't buy the Connect until I found that I needed it to unlock my home for a friend or parent from my office or remote location. Also FYI - If you use an Alexa enabled device to lock your August deadbolt you will need the Connect to do so. Although you can "lock" your August deadbolt technicians are still working on Alexa's "unlocking" capability. Hope this helps!
