You only link your phone to the frame via an APP and you connect the frame to your internet connection. You upload the photos via this app as well. Once they are uploaded your phone is not utilized until you, or even someone else you allow, wants to upload another picture. You do not need to be near the frame to upload photos, just an internet connection.
