No you don’t have to pair it every time. The button on the left ear I believe is a toggle. When you turn the headset on it will be blue and then when you press button and it finds Xbox signal it turns white. Takes a second no re-pairing necessary

One other thing, it doesn't remember your ANC settings or even the profile you were on. That has to be changed in the phone app back to where you like it.
