Yes. You can power the back-up camera to come on when you have the ignition key on. Depending on what unit you have, you would only see the backup camera video and not the GPS maps unless you manually switched from one to the other.

The camera is normally powered by the backup light circuit and therefore works when you put your vehicle in reverse. I imagine it could be done in some manner but don’t know what the effect of constant use would be on camera life and other driving problems.
