Just setting the volume on thebeats studio 3 to max volume will not damage the headset. In fact it's the preferable way to listen to them as they are actually not as loud as the studio 2s. But the beats have their own volume seperate from the music source they are connected to. If you set the music source volume high enough you can damage the headphones. A good cut off with any head phones is when the music starts to sound very muddled to the point where it doesn't sound good.
