• Hi mikey. This cable is designed to work by plugging it to a Mini Display Port or a Thunderbolt port of your smart device and plug the other end to your HDTV's HDMI port. It cannot be connected to a firewire port.

• No - Mini-DP is not Firewire. You'd need a converter as Firewire does not carry a video signal, just data.
