• All three tiers are a clear and reasonably sturdy plastic. They are numbered 1, 2, and 3 on the handles. They are actually slightly different sizes. You can stack them up to three tall when using them. But you do NOT have to use all three bowls each time you use the appliance. When you store the appliance, you can reverse the order of the bowls, and collapse them down to essentially one tier high.

• The 3 tiers and the rice bowl are all made of plastic but its not really clear to see through it, when is steaming the food I have to pick the tier up and see if the food was ready.
