“Looking at a reviewers pictures and I have a question. Are those black rods above the drip tray the heating elements?? If so, wouldn't there be a lot of spatter onto them when using the rotisserie feature? Are the elements above exposed as well??”

If your drip tray is the crumb tray at the bottom of the unit, there is no need to worry. Those rods get very hot on heating that nothing will stick to them. It will burn off.
