• No, does not go all the way to bottom. Very easy to clean. I put a slice of bread when doing greasy food (like bacon) under crispin tray, bread soaks up grease to keep from smoking.

• I don't think so. You probably could position the tray near the top, as long as the item(s) on top aren't too heavy, and you adjust cooking times for the closer distance to the heating element.
