• Hi Bill, It depends on the devices you are trying to connect. For example, an IPAD with a Camera/Lightning adapter connected to a Zoom Audio recorder will need the A/C adapter plugged in due to the high wattage requirements of the Zoom. Other connections may be OK without the A/C Adapter. Try your application without the A/C Adapter. It's nice to know you've got it if you need it.

• You can use this in any application of a USB port. For this case, I'm assuming you are trying to use this for charging in your car, and while I haven't tested it myself, I can say that as long as there is a USB port to use you can use it.
