“What do the side buttons do? I’ve read the manual, searched, reviewed the settings after installed, watched YouTube videos…nothing found. My concern is I will inadvertently hit them and not know what happened.”

The one that is closest to you acts as a "Back" button; and the one towards the front acts as a "Forward" button as you would use to navigate between pages or multiple selections - very useful!
