Okay I went ahead and purchased the mouse and can now answer my own question: the answer is no, unfortunately. Which is a shame because I heard any USB mouse can work on the Switch. However for just $3 more, I found that the Logitech mouse does work for it. Obviously you don't need a high-end gaming mouse for Mario Paint.
