That's a great question, Jim - It will depend on whether or not the hard wood is sealed and how porous the rugs/carpet installed are. This cleaner will suction most of the water back up. If you're concerned about the rugs you may want to move them before cleaning or pretest the machine to ensure water does not soak through.
