• It does need wi-fi, otherwise the app doesn't work. complete pain to connect it.

• It does not NEED wi-fi unless you want to start it up from your phone/app or have it clean a specific area of what it has already mapped.

• Chris24Robin's answer was only a user's guessing. I like to have an answer from function specification. I bought/retuned 3 WiFi Robot, None could connect with our community network.

• I have it, and I can’t imagine how useful it will be without connecting to the app (via WiFi). I believe it CAN operate without, but you’d be paying more for features you won’t use. That said, at clearance price, it’s still a top pick by Consumer Reports (as a mop - the dry vacuum capability was not considered for the rankings).
