Yes, you do need software that will allow it to work. I use mine with audio voice software owned by a company I am volunteering with to do some literature narration. Audacity would work, as would GarageBand if you have a Mac device. There are many others.

Plug and play with latest laptop, desktop, mac, etc. Check your system settings, change mic output to YETI
